We are delighted to host the Venerable Changling Rinpoche, who will teach on Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche’s seminal work, Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism, first published in 1972 and targeted specifically to westerners. Itprovides a rich overview of the Buddhist path—which from start to finish involves seeing through ego’s attempt to use the spiritual journey for its own benefit. According to Changling Rinpoche, Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism “…is the teaching for this century,” containing “the full practice of accumulating virtue and wisdom for overcoming one’s own ego clinging.”

Changling Rinpoche is the 15th of the Changling lineage, which is part of the Nyingma lama. He was recognized in childhood as a tulku of the previous Changling Lingpa by both Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Kyabje Penor Rinpoche. He studied extensively with Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, and then, following his death, with Trulshik Rinpoche, Dodrupchen Rinpoche, Penor Rinpoche, Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche, and Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche. He is an ordained monk and holds the khenpo degree.

Rinpoche is the Abbott, or Ritual Director, of Shechen Monastery in Nepal, where he teaches 3-year retreatants and other senior practitioners. Rinpoche also teaches throughout Asia and in North America, and directs the Lotus Speech Organization’s many dharma communities in Canada and Australia.
